Learn Hebrew

With Rabbi Reuven Ben-Avraham

Please Note: On this page I will show the four letter blessed *“Memorial Name” of the Almighty in Ivrit -  - Y-H-V-H, which we usually pronounce as “Adonai” or “HaShem”. At all times treat the most blessed Name with sanctity and when we even see the Name, we should say “blessed be His Sanctified Name.”

*This is My Name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.” Shemot - Exodus 3:15.

Please do NOT visit this site on Shabbat or on a Yom Tov (Feasts)!

The question frequently asked of me is as follows; “Why should I learn Hebrew, and what benefit will I receive from learning it”. It really amazes me when a Jew asks me this, and yes I have been asked, for is Ivrit (Hebrew) not one of the most important things we should know as part of being Jewish?

In Judaism the very heart is the wonderful mitzvah of being able to pray in our beloved ancient language, for our prayers are obviously much more than just words, for when we pray we give our loving Creator  Elohim, blessed be His Sanctified Name, the praise and glory He is due!

Thus, although there is nothing wrong praying in the language of the country you live in, but if at all possible we should have a better understanding of the beauty of our Hebrew faith and language that we were given so long ago. You will find that as you learn to pray in Ivrit, your prayer live will continually improve and you will live a more fulfilled way of life based on what we are taught in our wonderful Torah.
